If you have been watching the news, you know that several schools and teams in our area have already been impacted by COVID-19 positive cases and quarantine. I have pasted the following RSS guidelines so you are aware of what will happen if a student/athlete/staff member/coach tests positive.
1. At this time RSS is mask-required indoors. The CDC and Gov. Cooper recommend that any student/staff member not vaccinated wear a mask. RSS will not be asking for proof of vaccination.
2. Quarantine -
The current COVID quarantine is 10 days from the start of symptoms (or the contact with the positive person). Example: A student has congestion and shortness of breath on Monday. On Tuesday that student gets tested and receives the test results on Wednesday (the test is positive). Tuesday will be considered Day 1 in quarantine. The student can return on Day 11 (the next Friday) since quarantine lasts 10 full days. PLEASE NOTE: this is the current policy; this policy is fluid and may change as CDC and NC Health Dept policies and recommendations change.
- If/when student or staff is positive for COVID-19, quarantines will occur for those determined to be close contacts (defined as within 6 feet for 15 consecutive minutes).
- There are exceptions:
- Individuals who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms do NOT need to quarantine after a close contact. These individuals should get tested 3-5 days after exposure and wear a mask around others until receiving a negative test result.
- People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months, have recovered and do not have symptoms do NOT have to quarantine.

Have a great week!
Note about awards and patches:
At this point, there will be no patches/letters/emblems given to athletes from previous years. Additionally, we will not replace lost patches/letters/emblems. If you are missing or lost an awarded patch/letter/emblem you can order one through Varsity Apparel or Neff Company. Coaches will be given a packet for each athlete to distribute at their team awards meeting at the conclusion of their season. Any packet not picked up by an athlete or parent at the team meeting will be returned to the AD within one week. The AD will hold the packet for an additional 10 weeks. If the packet has not been picked up by a parent or an athlete within that 10 week timeframe, the athlete has forfeited his/her award. If the athlete has moved or changed schools, it is the responsibility of the athlete to contact the coach of the sport to request his/her packet.
The following is what will be awarded by the school:
First time letter-winners: Varsity "C" and the emblem for the sport played (if the athlete has already earned a varsity "C" and then letters in a second sport, he/she will receive the emblem for that sport plus a bar)
Repeat letter winners: a bar for each season after the initial "C" is awarded (i.e., an upperclassman can earn up to 3 bars per year if lettering in three different sports; those athletes who participate in two sports per season with coach approval can earn additional bars)
TEAM County, Conference, Regional, and State WINNERS: Patch
Individuals named to either the All-County and/or All-Conference teams: Patch
Individual Regional Qualifiers, State Qualifiers, All-District team, All-Region team: Certificate (If you would like to order a patch for this you can do so individually at either Varsity Apparel or Neff Company)
Individual Regional and/or State Champion: patch
Thanks to the Jesse Carson Athletic Booster Club for providing the patches/letters/emblems for our athletes!
